Time to Update Employee Handbooks


With the upcoming implementation of New York’s Paid Family Leave Act, it’s time for employers and Human Resources departments to ensure that they are familiar with the new law’s provisions.  It is also important that employers update their handbooks to include a policy on Paid Family Leave.

This law represents a big change for New York employers, especially those who are not subject to the federal Family and Medical Leave Act.  Creating a policy so that employers and employees can understand the rights and obligations under the law will help to ensure a smooth transition. New York’s Department of Labor is expected to issue a proposed policy for employers to include in their handbooks.
