It’s not every day that a lawyer receives an ASCAP song writers’ award. But we’d expect no less from the multi-talented Paul Nunes.
An attorney in the Litigation Practice Group, chair of the Intellectual Property Practice Group and co-chair of the Insurance Defense Practice Group, Paul has extensive experience in complex business and commercial litigation, intellectual property, insurance defense and toxic torts, including asbestos, mold and food-borne illness cases. He has lectured on current litigation issues at various local and state bar association CLE programs, including the New York State Judicial Institute.
As an attorney with robust litigation experience on both sides of the plaintiff-defendant divide, Paul serves as a certified federal court mediator, appointed unanimously by the federal judges of the Western District of New York.
For several years Paul was the featured speaker on "Electronic Discovery” at Hackerfest, a widely attended trade and educational program focusing on security issues and technology solutions.
Early in his career, Paul was a litigator with the Wall Street law firm of Thacher, Proffitt & Wood, and also served as law clerk for the Honorable Emmett J. Schnepp, Appellate Division, Fourth Department.
Professional and Community Involvement
A past board member of the Arts and Cultural Council, Paul actively works to promote arts and music education in local schools. In addition, he is a regular presenter at NYAEC, the National Association for the Education of Young Children and its regional affiliates. Paul also previously served as president of the Landmark Society of Western New York and, during his tenure, he produced Landmarks in Music—The Rochester Jazz Collection. A longtime member of the Monroe County Bar Association, Paul has served as chair of its litigation section, and is currently a member of the litigation council.
Awards and Recognitions
Paul was selected a 2007-2018 Upstate New York Super Lawyer. The Super Lawyer group represents the top 5% of attorneys in Upstate New York who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. He also was named to the 2009-2019 editions of Best Lawyers in America®.
In addition to practicing law, Paul writes, records and performs his own original music. His CDs have received numerous national awards. He is the multiple recipient of ASCAP’s PLUS award for song writers, and his composition “River Keep Rollin’” was featured in the City of Rochester’s Celebrate One City 175th anniversary laser show.
