Josh Barrett believes in giving back to the community. A third generation attorney, he served in the U.S. Army and is an advocate for disabled veterans. He has served on a rape crisis committee, has been a lecturer on issues of aging, and was even a Little League coach. He has also been an Assistant District Attorney for Wayne County and has prosecuted crimes for 35 years.
Just prior to joining Underberg & Kessler, Josh had a successful private practice specializing in residential and commercial real estate, probate, trusts, estate law, personal injury and business matters. His expertise in handling a broad range of legal issues has earned him a finely honed insight into people, and a thorough knowledge of real estate and its complexities. As a longtime advocate for the elderly and disabled, Josh also has a special sensitivity for the delicate family and health care issues that are often common to estate and elder law. Josh approaches the law with an optimistic view, believing that most of what we worry about never happens, but a good lawyer should be ready to handle any eventuality.
Josh received his law degree from Albany Law School and his undergraduate degree at Siena College. He was recognized for excellence as a training instructor in the Army and also received the Outstanding Service Award from the New York State Retired Troopers Association. Josh was selected a 2010 Upstate New York Super Lawyer by Law & Politics. The Super Lawyer group represents the top 5% of attorneys in Upstate New York who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Josh lives in Newark with his wife of 30 years.
